STAFFORD, VA—A former bookkeeper was arrested Wednesday after embezzling more than $93,000 from No Limits Construction at 68-A Cool Spring Road in Fredericksburg, according to the Stafford County Sheriff's Office. Vanessa Cline, 32, of Stafford, was charged with five counts of embezzlement, five counts of forgery and five counts of uttering.
Cline used the money for, among other things, plastic surgery to have her buttocks lifted, wedding expenses, plane tickets and furniture. She had replaced another bookkeeper who pleaded guilty last year to embezzling at least $150,000 from the company between January 2016 and January 2018.
Police began investigating March 18 after the owner reported unauthorized purchases has been made on a company credit card. He said he had been contacted by his credit card company and told one of his accounts was going to be closed for lack of payment.
He looked into the matter and found Cline had made personal purchases that included $2,000 for a wedding dress, $25,000 for a wedding planner and $7,200 to have her buttocks lifted at Elite Plastic Surgery in Miami. Other purchases included clothing, perfume, furniture, plane tickets and an all-terrain vehicle. Cline also forged five checks for nearly $10,000.
