FUQUAY-VARINA, N.C. (WNCN) – The former treasurer of the South Wake Storm Youth Sports Association has been charged with embezzlement. Investigators said Charles Frank stole more than $50,000 from the association’s bank account.

Investigators said Frank served as the group’s treasurer from May 2016 until March 2018.

"I'm shocked. You never think it’s going to happen in your neighborhood to somebody you drive by and see their kids out playing,” neighbor Aaron Evans said.

Investigators said Frank used the money to pay for classes at a local university, airline tickets, dining expenses, and various retail purchases.

"I know how hard it is to raise money for them to go to races and get uniforms,” Evans said.

CBS 17 didn't find Frank when stopping by his home. Parents and board members at Monday evening's practice declined to be interviewed.

In a statement, the president of the South Wake Storm Youth Sports Association said, “Our organization is dedicated to the kids, their parents and volunteers and will continue to work with investigators for the good of the community.”

Frank is charged with three felony counts of embezzlement.
